Rescuing Old Jars from the Mud

We live 100 yards from a creek that runs through town. Our friends own the property and they let us (I should say Bernard) dig on the bank. In the past, this was a favorite place to dump garbage, so he's finding all sorts of things. I don't go down there because Poison Ivy just jumps out and grabs me.

He was very excited to show me this find: An 1858 Mason's Patent quart fruit jar.

As I scrubbed on this thing, I thought I had a stubborn rust spot. But then I noticed it maintained a nice swirl pattern all around the jar. Hey! He found a jar with an amber swirl! Too cool.
